so as you read yesterday, we have started project beautification in our kitchen. i shared all of the cons with you - the things i dislike about the kitchen. now, let me tell ya what we're going to do about it.
problem: wall cabinets - blind corner cabinet and short end cabinet
solution: replace all of the upper cabinets
yep, you read that right. our contractor is removing all of the upper cabinets and replacing them. currently they are 30" tall but we will have 42" upper cabinets. hello, more vertical space! the corner will have a nice angled cabinet and the one on the far left will be longer. again, more space!
and, as a bonus - we are changing the door style. currently it is a plain, flat panel door. we are changing to a shaker style door. it will look something like this:
problem: orangey maple cabinets
solution: paint {duh}
since the upper cabinets will be new and all of the doors/drawer fronts will be new, we are having all of the cabinets painted. we have decided on white dove by benjamin moore.
problem: wood-edge laminate tops
solution: new granite
i wanted the entire space to look lighter. we chose giallo ornamental. i'm SUPER excited about the granite and how it will change the entire look of the space.
problem: sheet rock wall on peninsula
solution: wrap the wall in beadboard
we have a few other "fun" things we are going to do....like under cabinet lighting and tile backsplash. i have not decided on tile yet. i am waiting to see what everything looks like in the space before making a final decision.
also, i've got some tricks up my sleeve for this corner.
nifty turquoise may have to find a new home. *wink*
so stay tuned for more of project beautification!
